Smashed Kurt Cobain ‘Nevermind’-Era Guitar Sells For $600K

A smashed guitar that Kurt Cobain used during Nirvana’s “Nevermind” era sold for $595,000 at auction on Saturday, nearly ten times its original estimate.

The left-handed black Fender Stratocaster electric guitar was smashed by Cobain during the band’s 1992 performance at the Reading Festival in England. It was later repaired and signed by all three members of Nirvana: Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl.

The guitar was sold by Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California. The auction house had estimated that it would sell for between $60,000 and $80,000.
